Men's Golf Finishes Fall at Carolina Cup

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The Creighton men's golf team closed its fall season with a 14th place finish at the Carolina Cup on Tuesday, Oct. 11.

Charlie Zielinski led Creighton with a 227 aggregate following rounds of 74, 78 and 75. The junior from Omaha led CU in the fall with a 73.50 scoring average after tying for 50th place on Tuesday.

Sophomore Owen Mackin and senior Cade McCallum both tied for 58th place. Mackin fired 76, 75, 79 for his 230 total, while McCallum looped scores of 80, 76 and 74 in his final rounds as a collegian before graduating. The Grand Island product birdied his final hole of the tournament.

Reigning BIG EAST Golfer of the Week Shaun Campbell tied for 67th after rounds of 78, 81 and 75 for a 234 total and Cole Davis had a Monday round of 79 bookended by circuits of 84 to tie for 86th place with a 247 total.

Tying for 73rd place was junior Jackson Thompson after rounds of 78, 79 and 80 while competing as an individual.

Creighton's 919 total (308-308-303) was 75 shots behind tournament winner UAB, who set a tournament record with a 20-under total of 844..

Mercer's Tobias Jonsson compiled rounds of 70-67-67 to win medalist honors by one shot over UAB's Khavish Varadan (71-66-68=205).

The tournament featured 14 teams and 90 players at Carolina Country Club, a par 72 course that measured 6,929 yards.

Creighton begins its fall season at the Advanced Partners Collegiate on Feb. 12-14 in Palm City, Fla.
