Men's Tennis Records 5-2 Win Over Chicago State

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton men's tennis team increased its win streak to three on Saturday night with a 5-2 victory over Chicago State at the Hanscom Tennis Center.
Creighton improves to 4-4 on the year, while Chicago State falls to 3-9 overall. The Jays have now won five straight matches over the Cougars since 2012.
Creighton started the night by earning a hard-fought doubles point. Stratton Brown and Jose Oscar Diaz gave the Jays an early advantage with a 6-2 win at the No. 2 double position before the Cougars even the slate with a 6-4 victory at the No. 3 doubles slot. The Jays clinched the doubles win moments later when Casey Ross and Matthew Lanahan outlasted Pedro Alvarez and Javier Sanchez Pradillo, 7-5, at the No. 1 spot.
The Bluejays open singles play by collecting three straight-set victories to clinch the overall dual. Lanahan landed his third straight win at the No. 4 singles slot with a 6-0, 6-2 victory, while Brown claimed a 6-1, 6-1 win at the No. 2 position to give the Jays a 3-0 lead.
Creighton clinched the match as Shin Inoue responded from his defeat in doubles with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph at the No. 3 singles slot. It was Inoue's third straight singles victory as well.
Alverez put the Cougars on the board by claiming a 7-5, 6-3 win at the top slot. Hugo Hidalgo Vega also picked up a win for Chicago State by topping Creighton's Ethan Neil 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 6 singles position.
Diaz closed out the match for the Jays with a three-set victory over Chicago State's Jakob Zamorski. Zamorski grabbed the early advantage with a 6-4 win in the first set, before Diaz answered with a quick 6-0 victory in the second set to force a decisive third set. Diaz clinching the match and the Jays fifth point with a 10-4 win in the third set.
"We had a good comeback at No. 1 doubles which saved the doubles point," said head coach Tom Lilly. "Stratton and Matthew got us off to a strong start in singles and Shin clinched in a tough back and forth match. We will start some outdoor practices when we can and prepare for Florida now."
The Bluejays had a 15-day pause before traveling to Orlando, Florida to open BIG East Conference play against Xavier.
