Women’s Soccer Earns 0-0 Draw Against Iowa State

OMAHA, Neb. – Playing the final 64 minutes down a woman, the Creighton women's soccer team walked away with a 0-0 draw against Iowa State on Sunday afternoon at Morrison Stadium.
The tie moves the Bluejays to 1-0-3 on the season, while the Cyclones move to 0-2-1 overall.
Creighton was able to control the pace of play and possession through the early minutes of the first half, firing off four shots in the first 30 minutes of play. The Bluejays first scoring opportunity came during the sixth minute as Abigail Santana drew a foul just outside of the 18-yard box. Sophomore Hannah Luke blasted the free kick on goal but was denied by the Cyclone's goalkeeper Jordan Silkowitz.
The Bluejays attack was forced to change course as senior Juelle Love was issued her second yellow card in the 26th minute. Love challenged a pass to the Cyclone goalkeeper at the top of the box, making contact with Silkowitz, sending her to the ground and bring a stoppage to play.
Creighton continued to control possession throughout the remainder of the first half as the Bluejays outshot Iowa State 7-3 during the first 45 minutes.
Locked into a defensive battle throughout the match, the Bluejays and Cyclones each had scoring opportunities in the second half. Creighton best change came late in the period as senior Hitomi Yamaue redirected a cross from junior Ariana Mondiri into the arms of Silkowitz.
The Bluejays looked to senior goalkeeper Keelan Terrell to make big plays down the stretch as Iowa State fired five shots at goal in the final 10 minutes of action. The Olathe, Kan. native fought off three Cyclone scoring opportunities to keep the match scoreless and give the Bluejays the hard fought 0-0 draw.
Iowa State outshot the Bluejays 8-3 in the second half to finish the match with a 11-10 edge in shots. Terrell tied her season-high by making five save, while Silkowitz was able to make four in goal for the Cyclones.
Creighton will return to the pitch on Thursday, Sept. 1, when they face off against North Dakota. Kickoff between the Bluejays and the Fighting Hawks is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Morrison Stadium.
