Scouting Creighton (4-2-3)
Facing their second BIG EAST foe of the season in Providence, a devastating last-minute goal resulted in Creighton's third draw of the season. The matchup saw the Bluejays come out swinging in the 12th and 47th minutes. Â Yet, two goals executed by Providence stripped the Bluejays of a three-point day, as they settled for a 2-2 draw.
While heartbreaking in its ending, the Providence match saw two more Bluejays add to their scoring account, as both Ali Ramadan's first half goal and Roman Torres' second half goal propelled the two players to the ranks of Bluejays who have scored more than one of Creighton's 17 goals on the season. The goals put Ramadan and Torres in with the likes of other multi-goal scorers Jackson Castro, Miguel Arilla and Gavrilo Civric, though Castro still holds the top spot on the roster with three so far this season.
Blake Gillingham will remain between the posts as he has all season for the Bluejays, looking to help find Creighton's first win since his shutout performance 3-0 over Tulsa in mid-September.
Nine matches into the season, Bluejays stand at 1-0-1 when playing as visitors. Yet, against past Missouri State squads, road matches have proved little obstacle for finding a result.
Heading into their 36th meeting with the Bears, the Bluejays have 22 wins under their belt, paired with nine losses and four ties since their first meeting in Springfield Missouri in the 1990-91season. Creighton's most recent battle with the Bears took place in 2022 at Morrison Stadium, where the Bluejays found a 2-1 result.
Â
Scouting Missouri State (5-2-1)
The Missouri State Bears have clawed their way to a second place spot in the Missouri Valley Conference standings and a 0.688 percent record after their first match with UC Santa Barbara resulted in a 1-3 loss. Missouri State has since gone 5-1-1, picking up shutouts in four matches (3-0 over Pacific, 1-0 over Tulsa, 2-0 over Central Arkansas and 1-0 over Bradley) and emerging victorious with a two or more-goal lead in two of those matches. Missouri's only ranked opponent came in its latest matchup with No. 11 Michigan, where the Bears emerged with a point on the day after tallying a 1-1 result on the afternoon. The draw marked Missouri's first result in four games that didn't end in a victory.
The firepower behind Missouri's success is largely thanks to the 'hot foot' of Jesus Barea. The forward is responsible for nearly one third of the Bears' 14 goals, posting 10 goals on the season so far, and pushing in two goals in a single game three different times this season. Trailing Barnea's 21 points on the season with a roster second-best seven points is James Jennings, who netted two goals and three assists over eight games.
