Men's Soccer Claims 5-2 Victory at Marquette

Milwaukee, Wis. -- In an offensive battle on the final day of the regular season, Creighton Men's Soccer defeated Marquette 5-2 on Saturday, November 2.
With the win the Bluejays secured the fifth spot in the BIG EAST Tournament, moving to 9-5-3 overall and 4-3-1 in BIG EAST action. Marquette, meanwhile fell to 6-7-4 on the season and 2-4-2 in conference action.
Senior Jackson Castro got his team rolling on his own in the 11th minute (10:30), stealing an attempt to clear by Marquette goalkeeper Marten Brink at the top of the box, then struck immediately for his eighth goal of the season.
Before halftime the Bluejays pushed their lead to 2-0 on another goal from Castro. This time the Bluejays got a series of passes as Matthew Reed brought the ball along the right side. Reed's centering pass found the foot of senior Mark O'Neill then on to Castro for a shot from the top of the box once more, resulting in Castro's ninth goal of the season.
Coming out of halftime the Bluejays got goals from junior Fabian Alvarez (48:12) and Roman Torres (51:42) to make it 4-0. Each time sophomore Miguel Arrilla set up the score with a precision pass.
Marquette got on the board in the 60th minute (59:47) as Grant Locker scored off a feed from Tim Smith. With less than 10 minutes (81:18) of the contest Marquette drew within two at 4-2 as Gabe Anguil converted racing pressure off passes from Antonio Costabile and Mitchell Dryden.
The Bluejays wasted no time with a response as sophomore Ali Ramadan scored just 16 seconds later from just outside the box to put the match away.
Marquette closed the game with an edge on shots 18-14, but the Bluejays held the advantage with eight corners to four by the Golden Eagles.
