Omaha, Neb. -- Creighton Men's Soccer faces Villanova in an important BIG EAST match on Friday, October 17. The Bluejays enter play coming off of consecutive shutout victories, while Villanova fought Seton Hall to a draw in its last contest.

Scouting Villanova (4-4-4, 1-1-2 BE)
The Wildcats have been a much better squad at home this season, going 3-1-3 on their own pitch. The lone loss was a 3-0 defeat by Princeton on September 13.
Sam Nyenka and Fynn Lahrsen lead the Villanova offense with three and two goals respectively. The primarily facilitator for the Wildcats is Michael teDuits, who has three assists.Â
In goal a pair of players have seen action with Alex Yagudayev playing eight matches and Sebastian Cutler DeJesus seeing time in four matches. As a team Villanova has allowed 17 goals in 12 contests (1.42 per match).
Scouting Creighton (7-3-2, 3-1-0)
Creighton struggled away from Morrison Stadium in the early portion of the season, but posted wins over DePaul and Missouri State away from home over the last month.Â
In goal, Matthew Hudson has been a nice surprise as the freshman has seven clean sheets. Hudson has allowed 12 goals in 12 matches, entering the contest at Villanova with his third streak of at least two shutout contests this season.
The offense has delivered 16 goals with 15 assists. Miguel Arilla leads the team with five goals and is second with three assists. Arilla's 13 combined points is also the top mark for the Bluejays. Matthew Reese leads Creighton with four assists and also has three goalsÂ
(10 points).
Arilla Sets Career-High with Fifth Goal
Miguel Arilla's goal on Saturday night against Xavier marked his fifth of the season, setting a new career high after recording four goals in each of the previous two years. The junior midfielder continues to lead the Bluejays in scoring and remains one of the team's most consistent offensive threats.
Ring Up Hudson's Third Freshman of the Week Honor
Creighton goalkeeper Matthew Hudson earned his third BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honor on Monday, October 13 as the Iowa native posted his sixth and seventh shutouts of the season to help Bluejay Men's Soccer go 2-0-0 last week.
Facing 18 combined shots, the Bluejay netminder delivered critical saves in each win, stonewalling Xavier (October 11) on a free kick from just outside the box in the second minute of play and making six saves to allow Creighton's offense to blast in the game-winner against Missouri State in the 89th minute on October 8.
Hudson wasn't the only Bluejay recognized by the conference when weekly honors were announced. Senior Ryusei Shimonishi also picked up a spot on the weekly honor roll.Â
Shimonishi led the Bluejays to a pair of shutout wins, limiting Missouri State and Xavier to a combined 18 combined shots. Against the Musketeers the defender also provided the game-winning goal, finishing a run along the left side for the first goal in Creighton's 2-0 win over Xavier. It was Shimonishi's only shot in  the two matches combined, coming in the 54th minute.
Hudson's Scoreless Streaks in 2025
Freshman Matthew Hudson has posted a scoreless streak of at least 180 minutes for the third time this season as he'll bring a stretch of 183:57 to Villanova.
His longest scoreless streak came from September 10 to October 3 delivering 352:45 without a goal. The Bluejays also held opponents scoreless for 210:24 — a span that stretched from their 0-0 draw with Tulsa through the 31st minute of their match with Omaha.
Bluejays' Seven Shutouts in 2025 Already Most Since 2018
With seven shutouts in 12 matches this season, Creighton's defense and the play of freshman goalkeeper Matthew Hudson has been stellar. The seven clean sheets are the most since Creighton closed the season with eight during the 2016 campaign. The school record for shutouts came in 2011 as Creighton posted 19 clean sheets.
