Bluejay Men's Soccer Snatches 1-0 Win With Goal in 89th Minute

Kansas City, Mo. -- Creighton Men's Soccer snatched a win over Missouri State with a goal in the 89th minute (88:02) as the Bluejays delivered a 1-0 win on Wednesday, October 8th. The victory pushed Creighton to 6-3-2 on the season, while Missouri State fell to 3-5-2.
The decisive goal came off the right foot of grad transfer Martin Herrera from the left side of the box, redirecting a pass from Bautista Rossi. Bluejay captain Matthew Reed earned a second assist by setting the play in motion.
Each team had chances in the opening frame as Creighton's Todd Vromant turned and fired a shot into the upper right corner only to be denied by a leaping stop from Missouri State's Will Lowry.
Later in the period it was Creighton's Matthew Hudson making consecutive saves on dangerous shots by the Bears in the 15th and 17th minutes.
Hudson added four saves in the second half, highlighted by a dive to the left to deny MSU in the 84th minute (83:29).
Creighton's best scoring chance in the second stanza before the goal was a shot fired by Miguel Arilla that Lowry narrowly stopped by the length his fingernails.
The Bluejays closed the contest with 10 shots, while Missouri State fired off 12. Each squad created six corner opportunities.
Creighton returns to the pitch on Saturday, October 11th as the Bluejays host Xavier at 6:00 p.m.
