About Omaha
Ahead of a crosstown matchup with the Bluejays, the Mavericks' sole win of the season came against College of Saint Mary, 88-47, in their second game of the season.Â
Since Nov. 6, Omaha has lost its last eight games, though three of those losses came by less than 10 points.Â
In its most recent matchup against with Nebraska, the Mavericks fell 87-35. Omaha lost leading scorer Cora Olsen (17.3 ppg) in a loss to Cal State Bakersfield on Nov. 20. With Olsen out, Sarai Estupiñan has stepped forward with 15.0 ppg.
Omaha will face Western Illinois before the game with the Bluejays.
Scouting Creighton
After starting the season 1-4, the Bluejays bounced back in a big way at the end of November into December, riding three straight wins.Â
Most recently, Creighton bested Tulsa 73-60, with a career-high shooting performance from freshman Ava Zediker paving the way to the victory. Lighting up from the floor, Creighton's first year guard recorded a 21 point first half and finished the afternoon with a career-high 26.Â
On the way to adding another win to the column, the Jays led by as many as 20 points at halftime, bolstered by 71% shooting in the first quarter and 58% in the second quarter.
From there, the Bluejays weathered a Tulsa scoring storm in the third quarter — 17-8 — and closed out the game with a 13-point victory.Â
Zediker led all scorers on the afternoon, while Grace Boffeli recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Allison Heathcock and Neleigh Gessert also tallied 10-plus points for Creighton.
Freshman Comparison
Many have compared Creighton's 2025 freshman class to the impactful 2020 group.Â
Through the first eight games of the 2025–26 season, Ava Zediker and Neleigh Gessert have emerged as the leaders of this year's talented core. Zediker is averaging 12.4 points per game across seven appearances (four starts), while Gessert has provided a major spark off the bench, posting 11.5 points per game in all eight contests.Â
Their early production mirrors the influence of the 2020 class, when Emma Ronsiek opened her freshman campaign, averaging 11.9 points across eight games, and was joined by Morgan Maly, who added 6.1 points during that same stretch before developing into the program's second all-time leading scorer with 2,072 career points.
Millard Showdown
Creighton's matchup with Omaha brings a true Millard reunion, with Millard West twins Neleigh and Norah Gessert squaring off against Omaha's Avril Smith (Millard North) and Cora Olsen (Millard South). With four hometown standouts from three different Millard schools on the floor, this cross-town game doubles as a showcase of Omaha's homegrown talent.
Victories with 10+ 3PM
Creighton's perimeter shooting has been a driving force this season, with the Bluejays recording five games of 10 or more made three-pointers. The run began with 12 threes at Drake and was followed by 13 more at UNLV, then a season-best 14 against Northern Arizona. Creighton continued its hot shooting with 11 triples at St. John's and matched that total again in the win over Tulsa. The Jays are 4–1 in those outings, consistently using their long-range efficiency to create momentum and open up the offense.
