About Connecticut
Scouting #5 Connecticut (26-3, 16-0 BIG EAST)
With just two matchups left of the regular season, No. 5 Connecticut have dropped games to just three teams, the last coming to No. 19 Tennessee (80-76 loss on Dec. 21). Since then, Connecticut has claimed five consecutive wins as it prepares to host Creighton at home.
When playing in Storrs, Conn., the Huskies hold an 11-1 record.
Last time the Bluejays and Huskies shared the floor at CHI Health Center, Connecticut emerged victorious 72-61 to give Creighton its first and only loss in conference play. The Bluejays proved to be Connecticut's biggest challenge in conference play, as this matchup marked the closest ending result the Huskies have had in a BIG EAST game.
In the win over Creighton, Connecticut got 26 points from Sarah Strong and 22 from Paige Bueckers. The duo remain the cornerstones of Connecticut's offense, as Bueckers generates an average of 18.7 points per game, while Strong bolsters the Huskies' game plan with 15.9 points per game.
Scouting #22 Creighton (23-4, 15-1 BIG EAST)
Since falling to then-No. 6 Connecticut at CHI Health Center on Jan. 25, No. 22 Creighton has won seven straight to help bolster their near perfect 15-1 record in BIG EAST play. Through three road games and four home games, the Bluejays won by an
average margin of 12.8 points.
The veteran presence of Lauren Jensen and Morgan Maly has been instrumental in fueling Creighton's success throughout the season and their latest seven game stretch. In the most recent matchup at DePaul, Jensen's 28 points marked the fourth time in seven games that the Bluejay guard tallied 20 or more points. Blowing her game average of 18.3 points out of the water against the Blue Demons, the senior accounted for about one third of Creighton's points on the afternoon, going 12-21 from the floor. Maly continued to shine on both ends of the floor with 15 points and seven rebounds against the Blue Demons.
Throughout the season, the Bluejays success hasn't been quelled by road games. Since the season started, Creighton holds an 11-2 record when playing away from home. Their only two road losses came in mid-November and since then, Creighton has won 11 consecutive road contests.
With A Win...
- Creighton would win its eighth straight BIG EAST game.
- Creighton would start BIG EAST play 16-1, continuing its best start since joining the BIG EAST, and setting the best conference start in school history. Currently the 15-1 start this season and one in 2001-02 as the Bluejays opened 15-1 to set the best start.
