Gerch Fourth As Men's Golf Takes Third to Match Best BIG EAST Team Finish

OKATIE, S.C. -- Freshman Gavin Gerch tied for fourth place to help Creighton match its best performance ever at the BIG EAST Men's Golf Championships, Presented by Jeep. Gerch was named to the BIG EAST's All-Tournament Team thanks for his efforts.
A Lincoln native, Gerch (73-69-71=213) tied for fourth place in his debut at the BIG EAST Championships as he earned his first career Top 10 finish. It's the fifth straight season that Creighton has had a golfer finish in the top five individually after not doing it in its first seven BIG EAST campaigns.
Grant Feldman (70-71-76=217) wrapped up his junior season with a tie for 13th place. He led CU with a 72.30 scoring average this season in 27 rounds.
Sophomore Brock Kuhlman (70-79-74=223) and freshman Henry Kuehne (75-75-73=223) tied for 32nd place, while sophomore Owen Price (78-76-70=224) had CU's best round on Monday, to move up 10 spots into a tie for 37th place.
No. 46 Marquette (285-280-282=847) won the tournament by 11 shots over runner-up Xavier (287-283-288=858) to secure a bid to NCAA Regionals for the Golden Eagles. Creighton (288-291-288=867) took third, just ahead of Connecticut (289-291-292=872), Villanova (294-289-289=872), DePaul (297-292-286=875), Georgetown (290-291-295=876), Butler (285-290-302=877), Seton Hall (292-293-295=880) and St. John's (301-291-296=888). CU's third-place finish tied last year's squad for best team finish at a BIG EAST Championship, and its 867 was its best mark ever at a league championship
UConn's Alex Heard (71-66-68=205) won medalist honors and also earned an automatic bid to Regionals, six shots ahead of Georgetown's Barnes Blake (68-71-72=211) and St. John's Peicheng Chen (75-71-66=212). Gerch (73-69-71=213) was part of a three-way tie for fourth that also included Marquette's Johan Widal (71-69-73=213) and Patrick Adler (73-73-67=213).
Callawassie Island Golf Club played to 6,885 yards on its Par 72 layout on Monday. The final round averaged a tourney-high 73.96 strokes per player.
The tournament was the final competition for Creighton this spring.
