9/20/2025 9:32:00 PM | Women's Soccer
OMAHA, Neb. – The opening match of BIG EAST play was less than kind to the Creighton women's soccer team as the Bluejays fell to three-time defending regular season champion, No. 20 Georgetown, 3-1, on Saturday night at Morrison Stadium.
The loss dropped Creighton to 3-5-1 overall and 0-1-0 in conference play, while the Hoyas moved to 5-2-2 on the year and 1-0-0 in the BIG EAST.
A pretty even match midway through the first half, saw Georgetown take a 1-0 lead in the 39th minute as Jocelyn Lohmeyer converted on the first of three set pieces for the Hoyas. A corner kick from Shay Montgomery sailed through the box to Henley Tippin, who centered a ball into the box where Lohmeyer headed home her first goal of the season.
Creighton, however, drew even in the 42nd minute on a set piece of their own. Sophomore Anna Bragg came streaking in from the right side, heading in a direct kick from freshman Olivia Sides to knot the match at 1-1 just before the break.
The second half saw Georgetown quickly take a 2-1 lead as the Hoyas connected on another set piece. This time, Mary Cochran played a quick ball on a corner kick to Montgomery, who lofted a cross to the center of the box where Tippins headed in her second goal of the year.
Georgetown continued to pressure the Bluejays, adding some insurance in the 72nd minute as Maja Lardner buried her sixth goal of the season on a penalty kick to give the Hoyas a 3-1 advantage.
Georgetown ended the contest with a 16-6 edge in shots taken and a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks, while senior Alyssa Zalac secured five saves in goal.
The Bluejays return to the pitch on Wednesday, Sept. 24 when they travel to battle Villanova at 3 p.m. CT.
