10/15/2026 8:09:00 PM | Men's Soccer
Cincinnati, Ohio -- Trailing 1-0 early in the second half, senior defender Matthew Reed punched in his 11th goal of the season as #5 Creighton men's soccer concluded a five-day road trip with its second consecutive 1-1 draw at #21 Xavier on Thursday, October 15. Four days earlier, the Bluejays battled #9 Akron to a 1-1 road draw.
Following Thursday's result, the Bluejays moved to 10-0-5 overall and 2-0-3 in BIG EAST action, while Xavier moved to 8-0-4 on the season and is also 2-0-3 in conference contests.
Battling the Musketeers as well as drizzle that turned to rain, Creighton fell behind 1-0 in the opening stanza when Xavier's Osi Onwudiwe finished passes from Harun Bakaran and Ajmal Tesilimi from four yards in the 35th minute (34:55).
Reed and the Bluejays answered in the 56th minute as Angel Lopez sent a pass toward the right to Grady Gilchrist. The forward found Reed for a crossing shot from 15 yards.
In the 78th minute a Red Card was issued to Creighton's Diego Ferruzzi, forcing the Bluejays to play the final 12 minutes a man down.
Creighton's defense rose to the challenge to preserve the 1-1 draw. Xavier closed the contest with an 18-5 edge on shots, while Creighton goalkeeper Matthew Hudson delivered six saves.
Creighton returns home to face Butler, led by former Creighton assistant coach Ian Sarachan, on Saturday, October 24 at 7:00 pm in Morrison Stadium.
