Track Teams Get Final Tune-Up Before BIG EAST Indoor Championships

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Creighton Track had five top-two finishes at the Nebraska Tune-Up on Friday in Lincoln, Neb. The meet was the final competition for the Bluejays before next week's BIG EAST Indoor Track Championships presented by JEEP.Â
Kaylee Tobaben led CU women with a pair of third-place finishes in both the 3,000 (10:16.23) and as part of Creighton's 4x400 relay team where she ran the opening leg before passing the baton to Katherine Soule, Molly Rogers and Cienna Mazotti for a finish in 4:23.07. That was one of two CU relay teams in the 4x400, as a different Bluejay quartet consisting of Natalee Gehred, Bella Gomez, Sophia Valentine and Saige Christen took second in a time of 4:13.33.
Creighton registered three of the top seven runners in the mile. Anika Nettekoven was runner-up in 4:55.70, just ahead of third-place Reyna Heisserer (4:57.01) and seventh-place Carly Manchester (5:02.47).
Alexis Huddin placed sixth with a time of 2:17.00 in the 800, Christen topped the Jays while taking 10th in the 400 (1:01.46) and Gehred ran a school-record 26.36 to earn a 12th place showing in the 200.
Matthew Lindgren was the lone Bluejay male to finish in the top-five in multiple events on Friday. He finished fifth in the 800 (1:54.88) and was part of a victorious 4x400 relay team (along with Kyle Nelson, Evan Kraus and Connor Nicholson) that crossed the finish line in 3:24.89.
Noah Jodon led four Bluejays in the mile, placing second in 4:12.69 and Logan Piper took ninth in the 400 with a time of 50.93. Freshman Andrew Sauer paced the Jays in the 3,000 with a time of 8:50.19.
In addition to the winning 4x400 relay squad, the Jays also were second in the event with a group of Logan Piper, Gabe Hamilton, Michael Bianco and Rhys Cushman (3:25.65).
Creighton is back on the track next Friday and Saturday at the BIG EAST Indoor Track Championships presented by JEEP at the Dr. Conrad Worrill Indoor Track and Field Center in Chicago, Ill.
