Men’s Tennis Soars Past Northwest Missouri State in 6-0 Sweep

OMAHA, Neb. – The Creighton Men's Tennis team improved to 8-0 at home this season, soaring to an 6-0 sweep over Northwest Missouri State on Friday afternoon at the Hanscom Tennis Center.
The victory lifted the Bluejays to 8-5 on the year, while the Bearcats fell to 1-2 overall.
Creighton got off to a strong start, capturing the first point of the match with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles positions. Seniors Kirtan Patel and Yuma Daijima cruised to their seventh doubles win of the year with a 6-2 victory over Bernardo Henriques and Hugo Alvarez Gonzalez at the No. 2 doubles spot. Senior Zachary Kuo and freshman Mathis Dahler followed with their fourth consecutive doubles win, clinching the doubles point with a 6-3 win over Antonin Leborne and Jules Subra on the No. 3 doubles court.
The Jays continued their winning ways into singles play, capturing wins at each of the top five singles positions in straight sets.
Sophomore Rocky McKenzie quickly claimed a 6-3, 6-1 victory at the No. 5 singles positions, moments before Dahler picked up a nearly identical 6-4, 6-1 win at the No. 4 singles spot to give the Jays a 3-0 advantage.
Patel then captured a 6-3, 6-4 victory on the top singles court to clinch the overall dual for the Bluejays.
Creighton would add to its lead a few minutes later as Daijima closed out a 6-4, 7-5 come-from-behind victory on the No. 2 singles court, before Kuo capped of the sweep with a 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) straight sets win at the No. 3 singles position.
Creighton will get some much-needed rest and return to the courts in two weeks when they hit the road to take on Northwestern in Evanston, Ill. at 6:30 p.m. on March 8.
