OMAHA, Neb. – Despite a strong start from junior Brooklyn Patchen in the circle, the Creighton Softball team dropped a 6-2 decision to Iowa State on Wednesday, March 18 at the Creighton Softball Stadium.
The midweek loss moved the Bluejays to 12-17 on the year, while the Cyclones improved to 16-10 overall.
After two quick innings of scoreless work from Patchen, Iowa State jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the third with a solo homer to straight away center from Reagan Bartholomew.
Creighton countered with a one-out single from Ella Dalton, an RBI double from Avery Barnard and an RBI single from freshman Zoey Greenwood to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third inning.
Iowa State pulled even in the top of the fourth on a solo jack from Sydney Malott, forcing the Bluejays into a pitching change.
Knotted at 2-2 in the fifth, Iowa State pushed across four runs on five hits to surge out in front 6-2. A leadoff double from Jessie Clemons set the tone, as Bartholomew, Malott and Kadence Shepherd all delivered RBI singles to give the Cyclones a 6-2 advantage.
Iowa State's Lauren Schurman would close the door on the Bluejays from there, retiring the last nine batters in order to secure her seventh win of the season.
