Bluejay Softball Rallies to Take Series Opener Over Seattle, 7-5

The win pushed Creighton to 16-18 on the season, while Seattle fell to 14-17 overall.
The Bluejays fell behind 3-0 after the top of the third inning as Brooklyn Jones recorded a sacrifice fly in the second and Taylor Fitch blasted a two-run shot to left in the third to give the Redhawks an early advantage.
Creighton would push across three runs in the bottom half of the third via a two-run double from freshman Zoey Greenwood and an RBI double from junior Kaelan Schultz to tie the contest at 3-3.
Seattle answered right back with a sacrifice fly from Mikee Morris in the top of the fourth to retake a 4-3 lead.
The Bluejays, however, would not go down quietly, leveling the score at 4-4 in the home half of the frame on a perfectly executed suicide squeeze from junior Ashten Pierson.
Creighton followed with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, using an RBI single from Tara Vandewater and a two-run home run from Mayhue to give the Jays a 7-4 lead.
Seattle would add single runs in the sixth and seventh on solo home runs from Abbie Fales and Fitch to cut the deficit to 7-6, but it wasn't enough as sophomore Landrie Harris closed out the victory for the Bluejays.
Harris (1-2) earned her first win of the season, limiting Seattle to just three runs on six hits with five strikeouts in 4.0 innings of work. Schultz, Vandewater and Mayhue each collected a pair of hits in the contest, while Mayhue and Greenwood each recorded a pair of RBI.
The Bluejays and Redhawks will continue their three-game series on Friday, March 27 at 2 p.m. CT.
