Series History: Creighton First Meeting with LSU
The Bluejays and Tigers will meet for the first time on Tuesday, March 10.
Scouting Creighton (5-7)
Playing just their second full series of the season, the Bluejays posted their second series win by taking two from Gonzaga over the weekend.
Each battle with the Zags was a one-run affair, Creighton's eighth of the season.Â
Offensively Ben North has surged into the top of the Bluejays' stat sheet. The Creighton shortstop is hitting .362 with 17 hits, including a pair of blasts at Charles Schwab Field Omaha.
On the mound the Bluejays appear to have learned a little about the bullpen as Jimmy Burke tossed three innings of one-run ball to nail down the opener, while Matt Goldenbaum tossed 2.2 scoreless frames to lock down the finale.
Scouting LSU (12-5)
Dropping four of five games last week, the Tigers are expected to be more than a little angry as Creighton comes to Baton Rouge.
LSU enters the game on Tuesday hitting .291 as a team, led by Jake Brown (.408) and Derk Curiel (.333).
On the bump the Tigers have a 4.31 ERA. Five different pitchers have saves for LSU.
Jack Pineau Named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week
Coming off a 2-1 win over Gonzaga in the series opening game on Saturday, March 7, Creighton ace Jack Pineau was named the BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week on Monday, March 9.
Pineau scattered four hits over six scoreless innings to earn the win over the Zags in a 2-1 contest. He collected his second win of the season, notching six strikeouts. PIneau out dueled Gonzaga starter Zach Bowman, who limited Creighton to two run on four hits in eight innings.
The win lifted Jack to 2-0 on the season, lowing his season ERA to 3.60.
Games at Charles Schwab Field Omaha
Creighton has obviously played the most games at Charles Schwab Field, but over the past three seasons LSU has made Omaha a part-time home with 13 games at Charles Schwab. Since the stadium was opened in 2011, LSU has played 30 games at Charles Schwab Field Omaha.
