OMAHA, Neb. -- Wilson Magers threw three hitless innings in his first action in eight weeks and the Creighton Baseball team completed a three-game sweep over Seton Hall on Sunday with a 9-2 win at Charles Schwab Field Omaha.
Creighton (18-15, 4-2 BIG EAST) matched its season-high with a fourth straight win. Seton Hall is now 11-16 and 0-6 in BIG EAST play after suffering its seventh straight loss.
Magers, the reigning BIG EAST Freshman of the Year and a Preseason All-BIG EAST selection in 2026, needed just 40 pitches to get through three innings during his first work since February 14th. He struck out five and walked one, allowing one run, but did not factor in the decision.
Creighton's first three runs came via the long ball. Isaac Wachsmann belted his team-leading seventh homer of the season in the third inning to tie the game at 1-1. Wachsmann has now homered in four of CU's last five games.
An inning later Nick Venteicher launched his first homer of the season into Section 126 above the Bluejay bullpen in left, a 404-foot shot that scored Connor Capece. The Bluejays added to their lead when Ben North doubled down the right field line to plate Nate McHugh to make it 4-1.
Jakob Ruhl replaced Magers and threw 2.2 innings of one-hit ball before Jimmy Burke came on to escape a jam with two on and two out in the sixth. Ruhl (2-1) ended up the winning pitcher with 2.2 scoreless innings of work.
CU plated four insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh inning as Ben North greeted reliever Stephen Curry by launching his sixth homer of the year 374 feet into the CU bullpen to make it 7-1. Chris Baillargeon then reached on an error and scored on a passed ball as the lead grew to 8-1.
The Pirates got one run back in the top of the eighth inning to chase Burke, as Gabe Cavazzoni drove in Ryan Strnad with a one-hopper off the wall.Â
CU answered in the home half of the eighth inning as Deters singled to score Rocco Gump.
Brendan Strenke made his first appearance of the season to start the ninth before Evan Stratton came on to secure the final three outs.
North went 2-for-4 and drove home four while McHugh had three hits to extend his hit streak to eight.
Seton Hall starter Mason Christopher (3-2) was tagged with the loss after allowing six hits and three runs in 3.1 innings of work.
Creighton is back in action on Tuesday at 6 p.m. with a game at No. 19 Nebraska that will be televised by BTN.
