IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Victories by Noah Jodon in the 3,000 and Trinity Shadd-Ceres in the long jump, in addition to a sweep of the 4x400 relay titles highlighted Creighton Track's showing on Saturday at the Musco Twilight in Iowa City, Iowa. It was CU's final tune-up before the BIG EAST Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which will be held on May 14-16 in Storrs, Conn.
CU's best showing of the day came in the men's 3,000 meter race, where Jodon (8:24.73) won and was followed by runner-up Eli Moore (8:35.82) and fourth place finisher Owen Marett (8:45.66). Jodon and Moore's times were good enough to beat Garrett Kenyon's time of 8:38.95 in the event, a school-record that had stood since 2017.
The Jays victorious 4x400 men's relay team of Kyle Nelson, Logan Piper, Gabe Hamilton and Michael Bianco finished in 3:27.24.Â
Other standouts on Saturday included a second place finish by Jake Ziebarth in the 800 (1:51.24), Hamilton taking third in the 400 hurdles (54:07) and a fifth place performance in the steeplechase by Dominic Ricci (9:57.44). Cole Haith paced three Bluejays in the 1,500, taking ninth in 4:02.65.
Creighton broke three records on the women's side on Saturday, highlighted by Shadd-Ceres' Bluejay Track debut in the long jump. The Wisconsin transfer, who just wrapped up the spring volleyball season with the Bluejays, won the long jump in her first collegiate track meet by leaping 5.86 meters (19'02.75"). That distance ranks sixth-best in the BIG EAST this spring and was good enough to top a field of eight competitors by more than five inches.
Olivia Olson continued to drop her school-record time in the 400 hurdles, as the freshman placed 10th in 1:12.45, nearly two seconds better than her previous low of 1:14.11 run last weekend. Natalee Gehred also shaved time off her CU record in the 200, taking .03 off the previous mark as she was 21st in 26.01.
Anika Nettekoven led CU in the 800, finishing second in 2:11.72, and Reyna Heisserer was third in the 1,500 in 4:44.03. Also placing third in the 3,000 was Taylor Rorick in 10:15.09. Additionally, Saige Christen placed sixth in the 400 with a time of 1:01.33.
Nettekoven, Gehred, Carly Manchester and Alexis Huddin ended the meet by teaming up to win the 4x400 in 3:58.76.
