Women's Tennis Ends Long Road Swing with Pair of Setbacks

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Creighton women's tennis team ended an early season nine-match road swing with setbacks in their two matches at Drake's Roger Knapp Tennis Center this weekend.
Creighton (3-7) lost a hard-fought battle to North Dakota (2-4) on Friday evening before falling 7-0 to Drake (5-1) on Saturday afternoon.
Like last weekend, the Creighton seniors again came through to help lead the Bluejays against North Dakota.
Senior Liz Vermillion and junior Sam Anderson won their match at No. 3 doubles 6-2 but the other Bluejay duos fell in their matches at the top two spots to give UND a 1-0 lead.
In singles play, senior Jennie Hartjes and classmate Amanda Noonan won in straight sets on courts one and five, respectively. Sophomore Katherine Nelsen pulled out a three-set squeaker at 6-4 in the third after trading 6-1 decisions at the No. 2 position.
But North Dakota posted wins on the other three singles courts to edge Creighton 4-3.
The next day the host Drake Bulldogs defended their home courts with a clean sweep of the Bluejays on Saturday.
Creighton hosts Hastings for its second home match of the year next Saturday.
