Rain/lightning halt third round on the back nine
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The first meet in six weeks for the Creighton men's golf team saw the Bluejays place eighth at the Twin Oaks Intercollegiate in Springfield, Mo.
Play was halted late in the third round due rain/lightning and scores reverted back to the 36 hole totals accumulated on Monday.
Freshman Tucker Knaak tied for 22nd place to lead Creighton. He fired rounds of 74 and 73 to finish five-over par.
Seniors Koy Potthoff and Bradley Keyer were next on the Creighton leaderboard. Potthoff had rounds of 74 and 75 to tie for 29th, and Keyer tied for 43rd place after circuits of 77 and 76.
Nate Vontz tied for 46th place when he followed up his opening-round 81 with a second-round 74, while Joe Torkelson rounded out the Bluejay quintet with loops of 79 and 81 to take 50th.
SIU Edwardsville and Drake shared the meet title with a 565 total, after reverting to Monday's scores. That negated a comeback by Drake that had seen the Bulldogs take a four-shot lead on Tuesday. The Bulldogs' Lucas Sherf won the meet by two strokes with an eight-under total following rounds of 69 and 65. SIUE's Kyle Slattery was two shots back with rounds of 69 and 67.
The meet featured 10 teams and 57 competitors, and was held at Twin Oaks Country Club in Springfield, Mo. The course measured 6,754 yards and was a par 71.
Creighton returns to action on March 30-31 at the Bradley Spring Invitational in Peoria, Ill.
