Bluejays won all three doubles matches and did not drop a set in singles
OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton men's tennis team made quick work of Midland with a 7-0 sweep on Friday afternoon at the Hanscom Tennis Center.
The Bluejays improved to 5-3 overall this season.
Creighton opened the match with wins at all three doubles slots. Stratton Brown and Joe Hoff combined for a 6-2 win at the top spot before Mac Mease and Shin Inoue clinched the first point with a 6-3 win at No. 3. Matthew Lanahan and Jose Oscar Diaz closed the action with a 7-5 victory at No. 2.
The Bluejays won at all six singles positions and did not drop a set.
Lanahan cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 and Mease claimed a 6-1, 6-0 decision at No. 6. Hoff sealed the dual with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 5.
Inoue lost only one game on his way to a 6-0, 6-1 win before the Bluejays ended the match with closer wins at the top two positions. Diaz did not drop a game in the opening frame at No. 2 and won 6-3 in the second. Brown ended the afternoon with a 6-2, 6-3 win at the top spot.
"We played a pretty strong match throughout," head coach Tom Lilly said. "We knew that Midland has a good team and one that could give us troubles if we weren't focused and working hard."
Creighton returns to the courts on Saturday against Drake in Des Moines, Iowa. First serve between the Bluejays and Bulldogs is scheduled for 4 p.m.
"Tomorrow will be a great college match against a strong Drake team, and we will need to play well and win a lot of big points to take the match," Lilly said.
