Men's Golf Places Eighth at Twin Oaks Intercollegiate

Vontz and Zielinski earn top-10 finishes
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Nate Vontz and Charlie Zielinski turned in top-10 finishes to help Creighton men's golf place eighth as the Twin Oaks Intercollegiate wrapped up on Tuesday.
The 18-team tournament featured 108 golfers and was held at Twin Oaks Country Club in Springfield., Mo.. The course measured 6,760 yards and played to a par-71 layout.
Vontz led Creighton for the third time in as many tournaments this season as he finished alone in seventh with a 213 total. Vontz shot a 70 in the first round, a 75 in the second round and finished with a 68. He has now been under par in 16 career rounds as a Bluejay, including 5-of-9 loops as a senior.
Zielinski collected his first top-10 finish, tying for ninth place with a 215 total. The freshman sandwiched 73s with a season-best 69 in the second round.
Tying for 50th place was Jackson Thompson. He opened with a 71 before closing the tournament with loops of 75 and 77.
Cade McCallum tied for 64th place with a 225 aggregate. His 78 in the first round was followed by rounds of 73 and 74.
Wrapping up the Bluejay line-up was Jake Kluver, who started with a 75 before back-to-back 77s to finish in a tie for 81st.
SIU Edwardsville won the tournament by three strokes over Wichita State with an 858 (290-287-281) total. Creighton's 873 total was good for eighth, but just four shots from third place. SIUE's Zak Butt won the event with a 207 total following rounds of 72, 68 and 67 to win medalist honors by two strokes over Valparaiso's Caleb VanArragon (68-70-71).
Creighton returns to the course on April 12-13 at The Stampede at the Creek in Elkhorn, Neb..
