Men's Golf Finishes Fifth at The Stampede at The Creek

Nate Vontz ties for eighth place to pace CU
ELKHORN, Neb. -- Nate Vontz tied for eighth place to lead three Bluejays in the top-20 as Creighton men's golf placed fifth at The Stampede at The Creek on Tuesday in nearby Elkhorn, Neb.
A junior from Lincoln, Vontz tied for eighth place with a 223 total after rounds of 78, 70 and 75. He now owns six rounds of par or lower this season and back-to-back top-10 finishes.
Tying for 13th place was Charlie Zielinski. The freshman from Skutt Catholic started with a 77 before improving with loops of 76 and 72 for the 225 aggregate. He ranks second on the team with a 73.67 scoring average.
Grand Island product Cade MaCallum tied for 20th with scores of 78, 74 and 77 for a 229 total.
Freshmen Jackson Thompson (77-78-80) and Jack Olson (78-78-83) tied for 38th and 50th places, respectively, while junior Brandt Radloff (82-80-86) finished in 61st place to round out the Bluejays team scoring.
Two Creighton players participated as individuals. Jake Kluver finished 37th following scores of 80, 76 and 76 and Ethan Olson made his Bluejay debut with rounds of 83 and 86 before withdrawing after 13 holes on Tuesday.
North Dakota State (302-297-293) won the tournament with an 892 total, six shots better than South Dakota State (305-299-294). Green Bay's Max Pasher won medalist honors with a 216 aggregate following scores of 76, 67 and 74, which was three shots better than South Dakota's Matt Tolan.
Nine teams and 67 golfers participated in the event, which was held at The Club at Indian Creek on a par 72 course that measured 7,196 yards on Tuesday and 7,234 yards for the first 36 holes on Monday.
Creighton returns to the course on April 17-18 at the Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa, which will be its final tune-up prior to the BIG EAST Championships.
