4/3/2021 6:17:00 PM | Men's Tennis
Bluejays won three singles matches
OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton men's tennis team fell 4-3 to Marquette on Saturday at the Koch Family Tennis Center. The match marked the Bluejays' first home contest outdoors during the 2021 season.
The Bluejays moved their season record to 5-6, while the Golden Eagles improved to 8-5.
Creighton won the first doubles match of the afternoon as Joe Hoff and Stratton Brown combined for a 6-4 win at the top slot, but Marquette won at the second and third spots to take the first point of the contest.
All six singles matches ended in straight sets. The Bluejays earned wins at the No. 4 through 6 positions. Hoff won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6 to tie the match at 1-1 before the Golden Eagles won at the top three positions to clinch the overall dual.
Shin Inoue won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4 and Armando Gandini closed the afternoon with a 7-6 (4), 6-2 victory at the No. 5 spot.
"A strange match with no three-set matches but a 4-3 final score," head coach Tom Lilly said. "I am unsure if either team played great today being outside for only the second time, but Marquette's doubles play was the difference. We didn't compete or play as well as we hoped, but Marquette is a tough team and they earned the victory today."
Creighton closes its regular season on April 17 against Doane. First serve between the Bluejays and Tigers is scheduled for 1 p.m.
