Women’s Tennis Closes Out Bulldog Classic Hidden Duals With Seven More Victories

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Creighton women's tennis team closed out the Bulldog Classic Hidden Duals, hosted by Drake, with seven more victories on Sunday inside the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
The Bluejays captured dual wins over Omaha (6-1) and Milwaukee (6-1), while Drake topped the Bluejays, 4-3.
Creighton got things rolling on Sunday with five singles victories at the top-five slots to take down Milwaukee, 6-1. Malvika Shukla started the day with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph at the top singles over Iva Stejskalova, while Valerie Negin remained perfect on the weekend with a 6-0, 7-6 victory over Babette Burgerdijk at the No. 2 singles spot.
Ana Paula Martinez keep things rolling with an 6-4, 6-2 straight sets win over Nadiia Konieva at the No. 3 slot. Leanne Kendall battled to a 6-3, 2-6, 10-6 win over Alice Shields, while freshman Annika Elvestrom quickly took down Anouk Ma-Ajong, 6-1, 6-0 in straight sets.
In doubles play, Creighton jumped out to an early lead as Shukla and Kendall teamed up for an 8-4 win over Drake's Ines Stephani and Rebecca Ehn. The tandem of Negin and Martinez secure the doubles point for the Bluejays with an 8-5 victory over Kendall Hunt and Yana Gaskell at the No. 2 doubles position.
The Bluejays return to the courts for the dual season starting in late January.
