Women's Golf Places Fifth in Spring Opener

Allen leads Bluejays with tie for 12th place
SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- The Creighton women's golf team opened its spring season with a fifth place finish at the Islander Classic on Tuesday in San Antonio, Texas.
Katie Allen led Creighton for the third time in five tournaments this season with a tie for 12th place after rounds of 75, 74 and 74 for a 223 total. The junior has now placed 12th or better in each of her past six tournaments and posted 18 straight scorecards in the 70s.
Eleanor Hudepohl (80-76-75=231) and Katherine Lemke (78-79-75=231) were CU's next-best finishers. The freshmen both tied for 30th place.
Sophomore Gabby Tremblay tied for 42nd place. She fired back-to-back 76s on Monday before closing with an 81 on Tuesday for a 233 aggregate.
Sophomore Katie Berrian was 10th after an opening round 73 before dropping into a tie for 45th with rounds of 85 and 76. The 73 tied Berrian's best round as a Bluejay.
The Bluejays compiled rounds of 302, 305 and 299 for a 906 total, finishing just 22 shots behind tournament champion Wofford (294-302-288=884). The Terriers held off Houston Baptist (292-306-287=885) and host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (290-298-298=886) to win the team title in the 18-team field.
TAMUCC's Anastacia Johnson won medalist honors with scores of 70, 70 and 75 for a two-over par total of 215, defeating Wofford's Lindsey Hollis (70-74-72=216) by a single shot. The tournament featured 95 competitors on the Brackenridge Park Golf Course, which measured 5,986 yards and was a par 71 layout.
The Bluejays are back in action on March 7-8 at the UTRGV Invitational in McAllen, Texas.
