Men's Golf Third at Hawkeye Invitational in Final BIG EAST Tune-Up

Shaun Campbell leads CU with top-10 finish
IOWA City, Iowa --The Creighton men's golf team battled blustery conditions and a strong field to finish third at the Hawkeye Invitational on Sunday, April 17th.
The Bluejays made strides each round on the Finkbine Golf Course layout that measured 7,157 yards and was a par 72 design, opening with rounds of 297 and 291 on Saturday before closing with a 286 on Sunday.
Creighton's 874 total was 22 shots behind tournament champion Kansas (286-280-286) and 20 behind host Iowa (289-285-280). The tournament featured 14 teams overall, with Nebraska finishing 10th with an 890 total. CU's third round 286 was the program's eighth team round this season under par.
Kansas transfer Shaun Campbell led Creighton with his first top-10 finish as a Bluejay. The sophomore tied for eighth place with a 215 total following rounds of 69, 74 and 72. He's now a collective 3-under par in his past three tournaments.
Cade McCallum tied for 13th place. He opened with a circuit of 77 before back-to-back 70s for a 217 total. The junior owns nine rounds of par or better this season after adding two more this weekend.
Sophomore Charlie Zielinski opened with a pair of 74s before improving with a 73 on Sunday to tie for 27th place with a 221 total. He's now finished with 14 consecutive rounds of 74 or better and has shot 79 or better in all 45 rounds as a collegian.
Senior Nate Vontz tied for 32nd place after scores of 78, 73 and 71. Vontz has now played in 115 career rounds as a Bluejay, passing Austin Miller's 113 from 2008-12 for most in program history.
Rounding out the Bluejay line-up was sophomore Jackson Thompson, who tied for 39th place after loops of 77, 74 and 74 for a 225 aggregate.
Kansas senior Harry Hiller, the nation's No. 98 golfer, won the 78-player Hawkeye Invitational with an 8-under par total of 208 to defeat Iowa's Garrett Tighe by one shot.
Creighton returns to the course on April 25 when it heads to Pine Mountain, Ga., for the BIG EAST Championship.
