Juelle Love and Hannah Luke each deliver their first goals as a Bluejay
OMAHA, Neb. –The Creighton women's soccer team remained unbeaten and moved to 3-0-3 on the season with a 2-0 shutout win over Tulsa on Sunday, Sept. 4.
The win gave the Bluejays their third win of the season, as the six-match unbeaten streak is the longest since the 2014 Creighton squad opened the year with seven straight victories.
Similar to Thursday's match against North Dakota, the Bluejays wasted little to no time getting to work. Senior Juelle Love found the back of the net 41 seconds into the match for her first goal as a Bluejay. Set into motion on a foul by the Golden Hurricane, junior Peighton Steffen sent a free kick into the box from roughly 50-yards out and off the head of a Tulsa defender towards the Bluejays goal. Love, racing on, dove and headed the ball passed the Tulsa goalkeeper to give the Bluejays an 1-0 advantage.
Surpassing Jenny Grissom's goal 70 seconds in the Bluejays win against North Dakota on Thursday, Love's 41 second goal is now the earliest goal in the Ross Paule era and the earliest goal by a Bluejay since Franny Hylok scored in just 35 seconds against Drury on Oct. 18, 2002.
The Bluejays would extend its lead out to 2-0 in the 20thminute on a blast from sophomore Hannah Luke. The transfer from Limestone University found the back of the net for the first time in her Bluejay career after fielding a pass from Ariana Mondiri. Luke finished off the play by making a Golden Hurricane miss and firing a shot into the back of the net from just outside the top of the 18-yard box.
Creighton would control possession throughout the remainder of the first 45 minutes and throughout the second half to claim the 2-0 victory.
The Bluejays outshot Tulsa 18-4 in the match, while senior goalkeeper Keelan Terrell made three saves on the way to her third shutout of the season.
Creighton returns to the pitch on Friday, Sept. 9, when they welcome Colorado College into Morrison Stadium for the Bluejays 10thAnnualSocctoberfest. Kickoff between the Bluejays and Tigers is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
