Men’s Tennis Falls at Drake To Open Spring Season

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Creighton men's tennis team opened its spring dual season with a 7-0 loss at Drake on Friday afternoon at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
The Bluejays fell to 0-1 on the season with the loss, while the Bulldogs improved to 1-0.
Drake started Friday's match with identical 6-2 victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles positions for the first point of the day. Down early at the No. 3 doubles position, freshman Zachary Kuo and graduate student Casey Ross battled backed to even the match at 5-5 before falling 7-5 to Drake's Olle Sonesson Lindholt and Markus Bolin.
In singles play, the Bulldogs secured five singles matches in straight sets to earn their first win of the season.
Junior Shin Inoue captured the lone set win for the Bluejays with a 6-3 win in the opening set at the No. 5 singles position. Drake's Reid Jarvis responded with a 6-2 win during set two to force a decisive third set. In set three, Inoue jumped out to a 2-1 lead before Jarvis rattled off four of the next five games to take a 5-3 lead. Inoue bounced back with two game winners to knot the set at 5-5, but Jarvis recovered to capture a 7-6 victory.
Creighton will resume competition with a trip down I-80 to Nebraska on Saturday night. First serve between the Bluejays and Huskers is set for 5 p.m. at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center in Lincoln, Neb.
