Bluejay Women's Tennis Earns Six Victories on Second Day of Drake Invite

Des Moines, Iowa -- The Bluejay women's tennis team grabbed six wins earning one in doubles and each of Creighton's five singles players collected a victory in the second day of action at the Drake Invite Roger Knapp Tennis Center on Saturday, September 23.
The tandem of Annika Elvestrom and Ana Paula Martinez grabbed a doubles victory over North Dakota's Lucia Pizza and Nore Heinitz, 8-5.
Meanwhile the team of Valerie Negin and Malvika Shukla fell to Drake's Mille Haagensen and Stephanie Ines in the Blue Flight Championship match, 8-5.
Singles action saw Shukla rally from down a set to best Haagensen 0-6, 6-4, 1-0 (7). In doing so Shukla advanced to the Blue Flight Final on Sunday.
Annika Elvestrom, Jeanne Gearity, Ana Paula Martinez and Allison Wilcox all also earned singles wins in the consolation bracket of their respective draws.
"We battled hard today and we're able to come away with five singles wins," said head coach Tom Lilly. "Malvika continues to impress and will play for the top singles flight title tomorrow. Everyone played hard today and we will try and finish strong tomorrow."
Creighton continues play at the Drake Invite on Sunday morning.
