Women's Golf Takes Second Place at Big O Classic

Morgan Becker ties for sixth place
OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton Women's Golf team finished second place in the Big O Classic on Tuesday afternoon at Oak Hills Country Club in Omaha, Neb.
The Bluejays were highlighted by stellar play from junior transfer Morgan Becker and sophomore Annie Dawson. Becker posted scores of 79, 75, and 76 for a total of 230 in route to a tie for sixth place. A Phoenix, Ariz. native, Dawson, earned a tie for 13th place, recording rounds of 77, 79, and 80 for a total of 236 shots.
Freshman Julia Karmazin and sophomore Katharine Marshall also delivered top 25 finishes. Karmazin swung her way to a 15th place finish (76-80-81=237), with the first two rounds being played with her sister, Omaha's Emily Karmazin who finished tied for third. Marshall posted highlight of the day in the opening round with an eagle chip-in from 15 yards on the 18th hole to record a 75 (+3). The sophomore finished the tournament tied in 21st place (75-81-87=243). Â
Among top-30 finishers were sophomore Abby Aeschleman and sophomore Karsen Morrison. Aeschleman played her way to a tie for 26th place with loops of 79, 84, and 83 to shoot a 246 while fellow sophomore Morrison recorded a 78, 86, and 83 (247) to finish tied for 28th as an individual.
Completing the Creighton line-up was freshman Kayla Maletto with a 33rd place finish (82-86-82=250) and freshman Kinsley Smith tying for 38th place (86-86-85=257) competing as an individual. Â
Nebraska redshirt sophomore Lauren Thiele took first place out of 50 players with rounds of 73, 75, and 75 for a 7-over-par total of 223. Thiele was followed by freshman teammate Danica Lundgren who trailed by one stroke (73-78-73=224).
Omaha won team competition (303-298-309=910), topping Creighton in second place (307-315-319=941) and Lindenwood in third place (307-316-327=950).
The Bluejays return to the course on Oct. 7-8 in Libertyville, Ill. for the Loyola Parkinson Family Invitational. Â
