OMAHA, Neb. – The Creighton women's tennis soared to a 4-0 victory over Kansas City inside the Hanscom Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
With the win, the Bluejays improved to 11-6 on the year, while Kansas City fell to 5-10 overall with the loss.
"Credit to our girl's for coming out ready to compete hard, even though we have some sore bodies and a few injuries to deal with," said head coach Tom Lilly. "I liked how we are battling hard every time out regardless of location or opponent. We will get back after it on Monday and prepare for a really good South Dakota team next Thursday."
Creighton sandwiched a pair of wins at the top two doubles position to earn the doubles point and give the Bluejays a 1-0 lead. Senior Malvika Shukla and junior Valerie Negin picked up their seventh consecutive doubles win, claiming a 6-3 victory on the No. 1 doubles court. Senior Bianca Rademacher and junior Siri Kongara then clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 triumph at the No. 2 doubles spot.
The Bluejays carried the early momentum into singles play, collecting a trio of straight-set victories to clinch the overall dual, 4-0.
Kongara cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win at the No. 5 singles spot for her sixth consecutive singles win, while Rademacher earned a 6-2, 6-1 win on the No. 3 singles court to give CU a 3-0 advantage. Shukla then clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at the No. 1 singles position.
