Men’s Tennis Routs Pratt CC and Midland in Saturday Doubleheader

Bluejays off to their best start since 2014-15
OMAHA, Neb. – The Creighton men's tennis team earned its best start since 2014-15 with a 6-1 win over Pratt Community College and a 7-0 sweep over Midland in a Saturday doubleheader at the Hanscom Tennis Center in Omaha.
The pair of victories lifted the Bluejays to 5-1 on the season, its best start since opening the 2014-15 campaign 6-1. Pratt CC fell to 0-2 on the year with the loss, while Midland suffered its first loss of the season.
Match 1- Creighton 6, Pratt CC 1
Creighton secured the doubles point after claiming victories in the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles positions. Senior Ethan Neil and freshman Max Stollecker combined for a 6-4 victory at the top spot, while juniors Kirtan Patel and Yuma Daijima claimed an identical 6-4 victory on the No. 3 doubles court to clinch the first point of the match.
The Bluejays success continued into singles play, earning an injury withdraw win on the No. 5 singles court and straight set victories on the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4 single court to clinch the dual.
Daijima captured a 7-5, 6-2 win at the top spot, while junior Zachary Kuo claimed a 6-3, 6-3 victory on the No. 2 singles court. Patel added in a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at the No. 4 singles position, before Pratt claimed a 6-3, 6-2 win on the No. 3 singles court for the lone win of the day.
Neil then picked up a 6-0, 6-7 (4-7), 10-7 three-set victory over Sixto Golobart to close out the match and the victory for the Bluejays.
Match 2 – Creighton 7, Midland 0
Less than two hours after defeating Pratt CC, the Bluejays soared to victory claiming a 7-0 sweep over Midland.
In doubles, Patel and Kuo teamed up for a 6-1 win at the No. 2 spot, while junior Blake Eason and Stollecker combined for a similar 6-1 victory on the No. 3 doubles court.
Creighton quickly extended their advantage in singles as Neil did not drop as game on the way to a 6-0, 6-0 win on the No. 5 singles court. Eason followed with a 6-0, 6-2 win at the No. 6 singles spot to give the Jays a 3-0 lead in the match.
Kuo then battled to a 6-1, 6-4 triumph on the No. 2 singles court, moments before Patel claimed a 6-2, 6-1 win on the No. 3 court to clinch the match for the Bluejays.
With the match in hand, Stollecker earned a 6-3, 4-6, 10-8 three-set win at the No. 4 singles spot, before Daijima outlasted Joren Stevnes in a tight 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) win at the top singles spot to finish off the Bluejays third consecutive victory.
Creighton returns to the court to battle former MVC rival Drake on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 2 p.m. in Des Moines, Iowa.
