Senior earns a top-20 finish
KINGSTON, N.Y. -- Owen Mackin's best two rounds of the season led the Creighton Men's Golf team at the Roar-EE Invitational in Kingston, N.Y., on Saturday. All 36 holes of the event were played on Saturday at Wiltwyck Golf Club in a tournament hosted by Columbia University.
A senior from Lake Oswego, Ore., Mackin shot rounds of 76 and 72 for a 148 total, which was good for a tie for 18th place. His even-par 72 in the afternoon gave him seven career rounds of par or better.
Redshirt sophomore Kolby Brown (75-75=150) and senior Cole Davis (77-73=150) both tied for 28th place after each tallied 150 strokes on the day.
Senior Jake Boor tied for 40th place with loops of 73 and 79 for a 152 aggregate, while freshman Carson Wright shot circuits of 78 and 80 to place 58th.
All five Creighton players were entered as individuals, which means that the Bluejays did not factor into the team scores.
Dartmouth's Tyler Brand (66-72=138) and St. Thomas Aquinas' Nolan Skaggs (66-72=138) tied for medalist honors among the 68-player field. St. Thomas Aquinas (285-293=578) picked up a two-shot victory over runner-up Lafayette (289-291=580) to top the 10-team standings. The tournament was played on a Par 72 layout that measured 6,877 yards.
Next Saturday, Creighton will head to Okatie, S.C., for the BIG EAST Championship Presented by JEEP.Â
