Schultz’s Walk-off Preserves Split with Georgetown in Friday Doubleheader

OMAHA, Neb. – Junior Kaelan Schultz delivered a walk-off single in game one to preserve a doubleheader split with Georgetown on Friday night at the Creighton Softball Stadium.
Schultz's walk-off single in the bottom of the seven, Creighton's fourth walk-off of the season, lifted the Bluejays to a 6-5 victory in game one, before the Hoyas rallied for a 6-4 win in game two.
With the split, Creighton moved to 22-21 on the year and 10-4 in BIG EAST play, while Georgetown sits at 14-15 overall and 7-7 in league action.
GAME 1: Creighton 6, Georgetown 5
Knotted at 5-5 entering the bottom of the seventh, Creighton put a runner on second with a walk from senior Lily West and a stolen base from freshman Emma Bailey for Schultz. Schultz stepped to the plate and laced the walk-off single into left center to lift the Jays to a 6-5 victory.
Earlier in the contest, Creighton jumped out to an early lead, taking advantage of a Hoya throwing error to take a 1-0 lead.
Georgetown answered with two runs in the top of the third on an RBI fielder's choice from Gabby Park and a sacrifice fly from Naya Campos to surge out in front 2-1.
The Bluejays responded in the bottom of the fourth as senior Erika Perez lined a two-out double down the left field line and pinch runner Lynn Davis came in to score on an RBI single from Ella Dalton to level the contest at 2-2.
The Hoyas would retake the lead in the next half inning when Campos snuck a three-run home run just inside the right field foul pole to put the Hoyas up 5-2.
CU did not go away, plating three runs of their own in the home half of the sixth on an RBI groundout from Dalton and a two-run single from Ashley Smetter to tie the game at 5-5 and set up the dramatic finish.
Sophomore Landrie Harris earned her third win of the season firing 1.1 scoreless innings of relief, while Schultz led the way offensively with two hits and the game-winning RBI.
GAME 2: Georgetown 6, Creighton 4
In game two, Creighton jumped out to a 4-1 lead before the Hoyas rallied with a five-run fourth inning to secure the 6-4 victory.
Georgetown pushed across the first run of the game in the top of the first inning as Park was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on an RBI single from Taylor Francis.
CU answered in the bottom of the second on an RBI single up the middle from sophomore Tara Vandewater to knot things up at 1-1.
The Bluejays took their first lead on the contest in the home half of the third after scoring three runs on a bunt single from West, an RBI single down the right field line from Schultz and an RBI triple into the right center field gap from Vandewater to put the Jays out in front 4-1.
Georgetown, however, responded with five runs on five hits in the top of the fourth to retake a 6-4 lead. The Hoyas' Marina Egbert and Catherine Larson would keep the Jays at bay over the final three innings to secure the Hoya victory.
Schultz and Vandewater led the way for Creighton with two hits apiece, while sophomore Brooklyn Patchen suffered the loss in the circle after allowing five runs on four hits in 3.1 innings of work.
Creighton and Georgetown will conclude their three-game series on Saturday night with first pitch moved back to 7:15 p.m. The Bluejays will honor its four senior student-athletes following Saturday nights contest as part of its Senior Day festivities.
