CAYCE, S.C. – The seventh-seeded Creighton women's tennis team saw its 2025-26 season come to a close on Friday, April 17 as the Bluejays fell to second-seeded DePaul 4-0 in the quarterfinals of the 2026 BIG EAST Championships, presented by Jeep.
The Bluejays ended the season with a 14-7 overall record, while the Blue Demons improved to 11-10 on the year and advanced to Saturday's semifinals match against third-seeded St. John's.
"DePaul showed that they are a top team on a lot of bigger points today," said head coach Tom Lilly. "It was disappointing that we didn't win the doubles as I thought we played well enough to on all 3 courts. I liked the way this team competed all year and our improvement is shown in how much closer today's match was compared to a few months ago. I thoroughly enjoyed having Ana and Annika as Jays the past 4 years. They both had great careers and we will miss them next year."
DePaul earned the first point of the day, claiming wins at all three doubles positions. Clara Nilsson and Hannah Smith teamed up for a 6-3 win at the No. 1 doubles spot, while Eleanor Cochran and Sasha Sakura Stula earned a 6-4 win on the No. 2 doubles court to give the Blue Demons a 1-0 lead. Helin Alvarez and Sechi Roberta also picked up a 6-4 victory on the No. 3 doubles court.
DePaul continued their winning way in singles play, clinching the overall dual with straight set victories on the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 single courts.
DPU's Yasemin Pehlivan captured a 6-1, 6-1 straight-sets win at the No. 3 singles spot, while Nilsson claimed a 6-3, 6-0 victory on the No. 5 singles court to extend lead to 3-0. Smith would then post a 6-2, 6-2 victory at the No. 2 singles clinch the overall dual and send DePaul to the semifinals of the BIG EAST Tournament for the 11th time in the last 12 years.
Friday's afternoon match against DePaul marked the final collegiate match for Bluejay seniors Annika Elvestrom and Ana Paula Martinez. The Duo combined for 196 total wins over their four years with the Bluejays.
Elvestrom ended her career with 98 total wins, including 55 singles victories, a total that ranks 15th all-time in program history. Martinez, meanwhile, racked up 98 wins of her own and closed her career ranked 11th in school history with 52 doubles wins.
