
Tennis Teams Cruise Past Lake Superior State

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Creighton men's and women's tennis teams each came away with dominating victories Monday over Lake Superior State on the first day of the Bluejays' spring break trip. Both teams won by scores of 7-0, as the men improved to 3-4 while the women moved to 2-3 on the season.
Lauren Mastro set the tone in her first career match at No. 1 singles, winning by scores of 6-0, 6-1 over Megan LaMothe. Also winning in straight sets were Lindsey Erickson (No. 2), Sarah Cadwallader (No. 3), Leesa Cadwallader (No. 4), Cassie Yoneshige (No. 5) and Rachelle Shoji (No. 6). Leesa and Sarah Cadwallader combined to win their first match at No. 1 doubles, while Erickson and Mastro (No. 2) and Yoneshige and Shoji (No. 3) also were victorious.
The men's team also captured each of the six singles and three doubles matches. Jose Guerra (No. 1), Nikita Dudar (No. 2), Joe Eckert (No. 3), Brian Ward (No. 4), James McAvoy (No. 5) and Bryan Lube (No. 6) all came away with straight set victories. Eckert's win was his sixth straight after an opening match loss. In doubles play, Eckert and Dudar (No. 1), Guerra and Ward (No. 2) and Lube and senior Ross Allen (No. 3) each won convincingly.
The Bluejay men are scheduled to play two matches today (Tuesday), against Saint Ambrose and LaSalle. The women's team also plays LaSalle this afternoon, which is set to begin at 1 p.m.
