Women's Tennis Drops Pair of Matches Friday

WICHITA, Kan. – The Creighton women's tennis team dropped a pair of 5-0 decisions to Missouri and No. 43 Wichita State at the Wichita Country Club on Friday.
The three teams played by experimental rules with four singles players and one doubles team for a total of five points - all 2 out of 3 sets. Creighton opened its day against Missouri in a neutral site match before taking on host Wichita State.
Missouri (4-2) swept all five matches from the Bluejays in straight sets. The Tigers did not lose more than four games at any singles position match and took the doubles match 6-2, 6-4. Creighton (1-4) could not regroup against No. 43 Wichita State (5-1) on the Shockers' home courts. WSU also swept all five matches in straight sets.
Freshman Natalie Miller made her debut for the Bluejays playing at No. 3 singles in both matches. Senior Jennie Hartjes pushed her first set to a tiebreak before falling 7-6, 6-1 to Wichita State's Lucia Kovalova in the nightcap. CU junior Sam Anderson and senior Liz Vermillion teamed up to played both doubles matches. The Jays' duo fell 7-5, 6-3 to the Shockers.
Creighton continues its early season road swing when it plays at Baker University in Topeka, Kan. on Saturday afternoon.
