Women's Tennis Posts a Split in Iowa this Weekend

WATERLOO, Iowa – The Creighton women's tennis team earned a split against Northern Iowa and Upper Iowa at the Black Hawk Tennis Club this weekend.
Creighton (3-5) completed a 7-0 sweep of Upper Iowa (0-1) after falling 5-2 to Northern Iowa (3-3) as the Bluejays near the end of a nine-match, early-season road swing.
The Creighton senior class led the way this weekend as Jennie Hartjes and Amanda Noonan went undefeated in singles and Liz Vermillion did the same in doubles.
The Bluejays carried the doubles point and swept all six singles matches in straight sets against Upper Iowa.
Sophomore Katherine Nelsen, freshman Darby Rosette, classmate Natalie Miller and junior Karlin Naslund joined the seniors with wins on courts two through five.
In doubles, Hartjes and Nelsen won 6-4 on court one. Rosette and Miller won by the same margin at position No. 2. Vermillion partnered with junior Sam Anderson for a 6-3 victory at No. 3 doubles.
Against UNI, Vermillion and Anderson won 6-3 on court three but the Panthers swept the other two courts to take the doubles point.
Hartjes claimed a 6-2, 6-4 decision at the top singles spot while Noonan posted a double-bagel win at No. 6 singles. Rosette and Naslund pushed their UNI opponents to three sets but fell in the deciding sets on courts three and five, respectively.
Creighton completes its early-season road swing when it plays North Dakota and former MVC rival Drake in Des Moines next weekend.
