Women's Tennis Drops Tight Match Against Evansville In Orlando 4-3

Creighton takes doubles, wins two of three three-set singles matches
ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Creighton women's tennis team fell 4-3 against Evansville at the Lake Cane Tennis Center in Orlando, Fla. on Tuesday.
The Bluejays are now 5-6, while the Purple Aces improved to 6-7.
Creighton took the doubles point by finishing off a tiebreaker. The Bluejays fell 6-2 at No. 3 doubles, before Ashley Ishimura and Darby Rosette evened the action with a 6-4 win at No. 1. Katherine Nelsen and Michaela Henne clinched the first point of the day with a 7-6 (7-4) victory in a tiebreaker at the No. 2 doubles position.
Half of Tuesday's six singles matches went a full three sets.
At No. 3 singles, Henne opened the match with a win in the first set before dropping the second. The sophomore battled back and won 6-3 in the deciding frame for her fifth consecutive singles victory.
Henne now has a team-best eight singles wins this season.
Ashley Ishimura fell in her opening set at No. 1, but claimed a 6-2 win in the second. Evansville's Chieko Yamada responded in the third with a 6-1 victory to take the match.
At. No. 6, Evansville secured a first-set win before Claire Embree tied the match with a win in set number two. In the deciding set, Embree pulled off a 7-5 victory.
Embree is now 7-4 in singles play with victories in three of her last four.
Evansville claimed the overall dual with straight-sets victories at No. 2, 4 and 5 singles.
Creighton returns to the courts on Wednesday afternoon against BIG EAST foe Providence. Wednesday's match is scheduled for 2:45 p.m. (CST) at the USTA National Campus in Orlando.
