Bluejays finish 3-1 in Orlando
ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Creighton women's tennis team concluded its Spring Break trip in Florida with a 7-0 win over Marian on Thursday morning at the Lake Cane Tennis Center in Orlando, Fla.
The Bluejays finished 3-1 during four matches in Orlando and are now 7-6 overall.
Creighton did not drop a set on its way to a clean sweep of the Knights.
In doubles action, the Bluejays won 6-2 at both the No. 1 and No. 3 slots, while clinching a 6-3 victory at No. 2.
Ashley Ishimura and Darby Rosette claimed their sixth consecutive win at No. 1 doubles, and are now 8-3 during 2017 at the top spot.
The Jays lost a total of nine games during singles play.
Both Ishimura (No. 1) and Michaela Henne (No. 3) did not lose a game, while Hylan Miller (No. 5) and Claire Embree (No. 6) each lost only one.
Henne has now won seven consecutive singles matches to up her season total to 10. She is a perfect 4-0 at the No. 3 position.
Embree picked up her fourth-straight win and now owns nine singles wins, good enough for second-best on the team.
Katherine Nelsen's 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles helped her eclipse the 50-win plateau during her four-year Creighton career.
"The women had a solid spring break winning the doubles point every match," head coach Tom Lilly said. "Going 3-1 and winning a BIG EAST match was a confidence booster, and we hope to keep up the improvement."
Creighton is back on the courts March 17 and 18 in Vermillion, S.D. The Bluejays will face North Dakota on March 17 before facing South Dakota on March 18.
