Bluejay Women's Soccer Earns 1-0 Road Win Over Villanova

Villanova, Pa. -- The Creighton women's soccer squad significantly improved its chances to earn a berth into the BIG EAST Tournament as the Bluejays nabbed a 1-0 win at Villanova on Sunday, Oct. 14th.
The win moved the Bluejays to 6-8-0 on the season and 3-3-0 in BIG EAST action, while Villanova fell to 9-6-0 overall and 3-3-0 in conference play.
The lone goal of the game came in the 55th minute as senior Kaira Houser drew a foul in the box to earn a Creighton penalty kick. Junior Taryn Jakubowski stepped up to strike the ball, putting the Bluejays up 1-0.
Playing exceptional defense throughout the first half, the Bluejays were able to clamp down even further over the final 35 minutes. Goalkeeper Katie Sullivan claimed six saves, including one in the final minute to post her fourth shutout of the season.
Villanova out shot the Bluejays 21-7, while the Wildcats held a 14-2 on corners.
The win over the Wildcats was Creighton's first road BIG EAST win since Oct. 8, 2015, a 3-2 overtime win at Seton Hall.
Creighton returns to the pitch on Thursday, Oct. 18 as Creighton battles Butler in Indianapolis at 6:00 pm.
