Women's Tennis Cruises To 7-0 Senior Day Sweep Of Doane

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton women's tennis team cruised to a 7-0 sweep of Doane during Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at the Koch Family Tennis Center. The Bluejays recognized Julia Aguirre, Erin Epperson, Laura Higueras and Joanna Nowakowska following the match.
Creighton improved to 9-5 heading into next week's BIG EAST Championships, while Doane dropped to 10-4.
The Bluejays conceited only two games during doubles action. Kate Krueger and Sarah Wilcox combined for a 6-0 victory at the top doubles position and improved to 7-5 this season at the top spot, while Epperson and Malvika Shukla did not drop a game at No. 3. Gabby O'Connor and Nowakowska paired up for a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles.
Creighton won in straight sets at all six singles slots. Meredith Benson earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3, while Epperson claimed a 6-1, 6-1 decision at No. 2. Nowakowska clinched the overall match for the Bluejays with a 6-1, 6-2 win at the top position, while Auguirre won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5, Julia King won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6 and Higueras earned a 6-0, 6-4 victory at No. 4.
"I'm very happy we were able to get this senior day match in," head coach Tom Lilly said. "It was great to give all of our seniors one more match at home. We had a great crowd and enjoyed recognizing the seniors at the end."
Creighton now shifts its attention to the postseason. The Bluejays will travel to Cayce, South Carolina next week for the BIG EAST Tennis Championship, which is scheduled for April 22-26 at the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center.
