Women's Tennis Stopped by Illinois State, 5-2

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton women's tennis team fell 5-2 to Illinois State on Sunday morning at the Hanscom Indoor Tennis Center.
Creighton dropped to 4-3 this season, while the Redbirds improved to 6-3 overall.
Illinois State took the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles position. Creighton's Meredith Benson and Gabby O'Connor dropped a 6-1 decision at the No. 3 slot while Valerie Negin and Milvika Shukla fell by a 6-4 margin at the top doubles spot.
Negin secured the first point for the Jays with a 6-1, 6-2 straight-sets win at the No. 2 singles position to even the match up at 1-1.
Illinois State's Penelope Abreu gave the lead right back to the Redbirds with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Allison Wilcox at the No. 6 singles slot, before Tijana Zlatanovic claimed a 6-3, 6-4 win at the top singles position for a 3-1 advantage in the match.
Benson claimed a 7-5, 6-2 straight-sets victory at the No. 5 singles slot to cut the Redbirds lead down to 3-2.
Illinois State's Tara Damnjanovic clinched the match for the Redbirds with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 win at the No. 4 singles slot, while Maria Potsi posted a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 win at the No. 3 singles.
The Bluejays are back in action on Saturday, February 27 at Missouri State in a match that will start at 12 p.m.
