LINCOLN, Neb. – The Creighton women's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 63 Nebraska at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center on Wednesday night.
The loss moves the Bluejays to 12-6 on the year, while Nebraska improved to 12-3 on the year with the victory.
Nebraska earned the doubles point with victories at the top two doubles positions. Creighton fell 6-3 on the No. 2 court, before the Huskers claimed a hard-fought 7-5 win on the No, 1 doubles court.
In singles play, Nebraska claimed victories on the No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 courts to earn the 4-0 win over the Bluejays. Junior Malvika Shukla won her first set at the No. 1 singles position, while senior Kate Krueger claimed a 7-5 win in set one at the No. 2 singles spot before both matches went unfinished due to clinch play.
"We had our chances in the doubles and just couldn't finish," said head coach Tom Lilly. "Malvika and Kate were playing some top-notch tennis and I wish we could have finished those. We competed well and fought hard, but Nebraska played just a little better in the bigger moments today."
The Bluejays return to the courts next weekend for a pair of home matches. Creighton hosts Marquette on Friday, March 31 at 12:30 p.m. before battling Doane on Sunday, April 2 at 2 p.m. at the Hanscom Tennis Center.
