Men's Golf Drops Finale at BIG EAST Match Play

Xavier tops Bluejays, 4-3
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- The Creighton men's golf team completed BIG EAST Match Play on Tuesday afternoon with a 4-3 loss to Xavier. The result gave CU a fourth-place finish in the event after a 1-2 record.
Creighton got wins from Jake Boor, Jackson Thompson and Charlie Zielinski.
Boor was tied after 15 holes, then won both 16 & 17 for the 2 & 1 victory. Thompson won the first five holes of the day to get off to a hot start. After his lead had dwindled to one after 12 holes, the Bluejay senior won holes 13, 14 and 15 to earn the 4 & 3 triumph. Zielinski was tied after 13 holes, then won 14 & 17 for the 2 & 1 win.
Cole Davis dropped the final two holes in a 2 & 1 loss at No. 7 singles. Owen Price, the lone Bluejay to win both matches on Monday, lost 3 & 2 to Xavier's Jack Korotcoff. Grant Feldman was tied after 12 holes, only to be beaten on holes No. 13, 16 & 17 in a 3 & 1 loss.
Tied at 3-all, the match then came down to No. 1 singles. Creighton senior Shaun Campbell owned a 1 UP lead before being edged out on both of the final two holes by Xavier's Mason Witt, giving the third-seeded Musketeers the upset victory.
Creighton returns to the course at the Jackrabbit Invitational on March 8-9 in Boulder City, Nev.
