CHICAGO, Ill. – The Creighton women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to BIG EAST rival DePaul on Saturday afternoon in the Windy City.
The Bluejays fell to 9-6 overall and 2-2 in BIG EAST play with the loss, while DePaul improved to 12-6 on the season and 5-0 in league action with the win.
The Blue Demons jumped out to an early lead, securing the doubles point with a 6-1 and 6-2 win at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles positions.
DePaul then took a 3-0 advantage with a pair of straight-set victories at the No. 5 and No. 6 singles positions, before clinching the match with a three-set win on the No. 4 singles court.
With the match already in hand for DePaul, Creighton claimed a trio of three-set wins at the top three singles spots to close the match.
Senior Malvika Shukla captured a 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 win on Court 1, while junior Valerie Negin pick up a 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory on court No. 2. Junior Bianca Rademacher then captured a 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 triumph on the No. 3 singles court to finish the match.
"We played another tough match today against a strong DePaul team," said head coach Tom Lilly. "Our top 3 came through but DePaul's depth was better today, and our doubles needs to continue tweaking a few things. We will get better again this week and look forward to two more battles at home Thursday and Friday."
The Bluejays close out the regular season with a five-match homestand, beginning on Thursday, March 28 with a 12:30 p.m. match against Oral Roberts.
