Shukla Enters Top-10 Career Wins List as Women’s Tennis Sweeps Cedarville, 7-0

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Creighton senior Malvika Shukla earned her 110th career victory to move into a tie for seventh on Creighton's all-time career wins list as the Bluejays swept Cedarville, 7-0, on Monday at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
With the win, Creighton improved to 6-4 on the year, while former Bluejay Karl Monson and his Cedarville squad fell to 7-4 overall.
The Bluejays quickly earned the first point of the match, sweeping the doubles point with a trio of 6-0 victories. Shukla and junior Valerie Negin claimed the shutout on the top doubles court, while sophomore's Ana Paula Martinez and Annika Elvestrom clinched the doubles point with a 6-0 victory on the No. 3 court. Senior Bianca Rademacher and junior Siri Kongara also claimed a 6-0 win on the No. 2 doubles court.
In singles play, Creighton captured straight-set wins at all six singles positions to cruise to a 7-0 dual victory.
Negin surrendered just two games while quickly earning a 6-1, 6-1 win at the No. 2 singles position. Shukla followed with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph at the No. 1 singles spot to take a 3-0 edge in the match.
Junior Allison Wilcox then clinched the overall match with a 6-0, 6-0 victory on the No. 5 singles court, before Kongara picked up a 6-1, 6-3 win on the No. 3 singles court.
Freshman Elsa Jurrens captured her first career singles win as she claimed a 6-1, 6-1 win on the No. 6 singles court over Faith Monson, the daughter of the Yellow Jackets head coach. In full circle, Jurrens' mother played at Creighton during the same time frame as Karl Monson.
Creighton continues play in Orlando on Tuesday, when it matches up against BIG EAST conference foe Seton Hall at 11 a.m. CT.
