Fast Start Lifts Men's Soccer to 3-1 Win at Butler

Indianapolis, Ind. -- Â Three early saves from goalkeeper Matthew Hudson lit a fuse for Creighton Men's Soccer as the Bluejays went on to score three goals in the opening frame to defeat Butler 3-1 on Saturday, October 25.
The win pushed the Bluejays to 8-3-3 overall and 4-1-1 in BIG EAST action, while Butler fell to 5-9-1 on the season and 2-3-1 in conference contests.
Facing a free kick a few yards outside the box in the 18th minute, Hudson made three saves in 18 seconds to change the momentum of the match. Butler's Bernardo Raposo fired the Bulldogs' free kick toward the bottom corner, forcing Hudson to make a diving save. The ricochet settled near Brendan Cunningham, who blasted it towards the center of the for another diving save by Hudson. A few seconds later Butler tried once more on a shot by Josemir Gomez. Hudson proved equal to the challenge once more, sending the ball to a teammate for the clear.
The Bluejay offense found its groove in the 23rd minute (22:27) as Omar Ramadan gave Creighton a 1-0 edge with an unassisted goal, bending a shot into the net on a free kick from just outside the box.
A highlight reel goal from Miguel Arilla followed in the 27th minute (26:02) as the junior finished a pass from Ramadan with a bicycle kick into the back of the net to make it 2-0.
Near the end of the first half the two teams traded goals as Ayden Kokoszka raced from just inside midfield through a slew of defenders to slice in a goal at the 41:06 mark.Â
Butler countered just 38 seconds later as Ryan Hannosh put Butler on the board, with Adam Watson collecting an assist.
Creighton closed the match with a 20-14 shot edge, while Hudson made four saves in the win.
The Bluejays will close out the regular season with back-to-back home matches against Seton Hall (Nov. 1) and Akron (Nov. 7).
